Microchip Technology is an American supplier of IC based microcontrollers and memory chips. The company was formed in 1987 when General Instruments set it up as a wholly owned subsidiary. The company was sold in 1989, went public in 1993 and is headquartered in Chandler, Arizona. The company's Quality Management System is based on ISO/TS 16949, which is the automotive equivalent of ISO 9001. The company complies with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and its products conform to RoHS requirements, as well as being halogen-free as defined by the IEC 61249 standard for printed circuit boards. Microchip Technology manufactures a very large selection of digital IC circuits, including a selection of 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers designed for through-board mounting as well as surface mounting. Other digital products include EPROM microchips and flash memory. Analogue integrated circuits that are manufactured include voltage references, amplifiers, drivers, sensor circuits and power management chips. Microchip Technology also supplies a number of discrete semiconductors such as MOSFET transistors that are available in conventional TO-92 packaging, as well as packages designed for pin and surface mounting on PCB boards. In addition to the supply of discrete components, Microchip Technology manufactures complete modules such as Bluetooth and WLAN wireless communication modules, and radio transreceiver modules.
