SICK AG was founded in 1946 in Germany to produce sensors, and in 1950 introduced its first photoelectric switches. In 1952, the company had a major breakthrough when it introduced the innovative light curtain designed to protect operators of large moving machinery, and has since become a world leader in machine safety sensor systems. The company is based in Waldkirch, Germany, and has a global presence with more than 50 subsidiaries. Its safety products are manufactured to the highest safety standards, and manufacturing quality management systems conform to the ISO 9001:2008 standard as well as to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. SICK voluntarily complies with the U.S. conflict minerals policies. The SICK range of optical sensors uses the visible red light spectrum, is designed for easy installation and has robust IP67 protection, making these sensors suitable for use in harsh operating environments. SICK inductive sensors are ideal as proximity switches for automated machinery, and the range includes miniature 1.5 mm diameter sensors through to heavy-duty 20mm and 30mm diameter sensors with an enhanced sensing range. SICK capacitive sensors are designed for use on non-ferrous materials and are suitable for detecting both liquid and solid materials. The company also manufactures magnetic sensors for use on pneumatic cylinders
