LEDs with Series Resistors

A light-emitting diode (LED) produces light when an electric current is passed through it. The simplest and most efficient way of achieving this is to use a circuit consisting of a voltage source with a resistor and an LED arranged in series. This is also known as a ballast resistor. It limits the level of current passing through the LED to prevent burn-out.
